Today, we take time out from the chaos of the campaign to celebrate with our Filipino Muslim brothers and sisters Eid’ul Fitr, which signals the end of Ramadan.
It is only fitting that the entire nation pauses to respect and recognize the importance of this holy festival to our fellow Filipinos. Eid’ul Fitr or the Festival of Breaking the Fast is marked by communal prayer, friendly visits, family time and shared meals, all of which are essential parts of our culture, whether Muslim or Christian.
These precious gatherings are all the more important now, as we emerge from a pandemic that has prevented us from getting together with loved-ones as we used to. May we never take for granted again the freedom to be with the people closest to us and celebrate the things we value most.
The celebration of Eid’ul Fitr also reminds us of our sameness as humans, which should lead to our oneness as Filipinos. In a season that can be divisive, let us choose to pray together, hope together and work together for a better country. Because we deserve nothing less as Filipinos.
